tips, diy, and home remedies for more environmental living

The last post got me thinking, and here are some things it made me think...
Carpooling is great, I should try it more. I'm budgeting some rain barrels before spring, for all the rain we get. Matt is desperate to automate the house - and our electric bill. Growing small quantities of fruits and veggies at home cuts down on the carbon foot print as well. Oh, and my wildcard tip is use flushable cat litter....I think that's environmentally friendly. What do ya'll think?

I think if you have the space, growing your own veggies is great! They seem to taste better. Don't forget to compost. If you've never done this before it takes awhile to get started but it is worth the effort. Can add an exceptional amount of benificial micro-organisms to your soil, and also is nitrogen rich. You can use all vegetation such as leaves, grass clippings, and kitchen scraps ( no meat type products though) only vegetation. For small spaces container gardening is an option. Now you've got me thinking I may want to give it a try! Create a Green Space in your back yard. Happy Gardening! Rob BTW.... I carpool with my wife two or three times a week to work, it saves us about 210 miles of driving per week. That translates into about ten gallons of gasoline or thirty dollars a week for us. WOW, that means if we do it consistantly it's $1,560 greenbacks anually, not to mention the benifits to the environment!

The spring crop has started to grow. Right now it's all small enough to fit in pots. More planning will have to go into actual yard placement. I'm wanting to compost, just haven't gotten to it yet. DH is somewhat skeptical, but coming around. I hope the rain keeps up, then my water bill won't have to suffer as much.
