Sipsey Camping Last Weekend

Hello All,
Wanted to share current conditions in the Sipsey Wilderness Area. Spent the weekend camping off the old Arnold Motorway near Quillian Creek. It was hot. Once the sun set, the temperature was bearable around 9pm. Since it was so hot, we decided not to hike, but to spend the day at Kinlock Falls.
Water was flowing nicely, and there were alot of locals swimming at the falls. The water was cool and felt great in the heat of the day. There is a nice rope that helps you climb the falls and there is a natural slide that allows for you to slide down the falls on your rump. Plenty of people jumping off the ledge into the deep spots, and even some crazy kids jumping from the very top of the bluff into the water, must have been at least a 40 foot drop.
At the top of the falls, there is a place one of the local girls called the deep hole. It is about the size of a hot tube, and it is 7-8 feet deep. She mentioned that a body was found there last year. She mentioned it was a murder since the victim had bricks tied on his feet.
I have tried googling this, and have found nothing on any body found in the bankhead or sipsey. I was wondering if Uncle Wayne, or any other of the locals on the board have heard this story? I tend to think she was pulling my leg, or it is a urban myth.
Borden Creek was very low, almost no flow under the bridge, and it was a hot weekend. Bugs not to bad either, found 3 ticks during the entire weekend on my legs and pants.
I agree the Sipsey is not ideal in the summer, but I enjoy seeing the forest in full green, which you miss if you only visit in the winter.

I think she was pulling your leg
The only death I know about is the guy falling off the bluff or jumping off the wrong spot?

Sounds like an awesome trip. We camped in florida last week, and it was entirely unbearable. Luckily we were near water as well

Brother Eric,
She was lying or to give her the benefit of the doubt since I didn't hear her, maybe joking but that did not happen. Bankheadboy or myself would have reported that long ago to the forum.
The forest is pretty dressed out in green but just not as enjoyable to me.

"It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it while you can, while it is still there. So go out there and hunt and fish and mess around. Ramble out yonder, explore the forests, encounter the grizz, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air. Sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, that lovely, mysterious and awesome space. I promise you this one sweet victory, over those deskbound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by calculators. : you will outlive the bastards." Ed Abbey

I forgot to say that I did enjoy your trip report!
It put me back to the good old days of being in the Boy Scouts and sliding down Kinlock and swimming in that what we called the whirlpool hole. Not the dead body hole. Plus for anybody who goes there lock your doors and watch your coolers! Sticky fingers are around! I cant wait till Fall-winter to start back enjoying Bankhead to its fullest. I'm getting ready!

I'll be in the Bankhead on Saturday with Janice Barrett of Wild South. If anyone knows, she would (about the murder).
