Very good news this time.  If you read my report from the last meeting, ( http://www.alatrails.com/...dex.php/topic,2451.0.html)  I mentioned that WildSouth had questioned the legality of the logging going on above Mattox Creek. There was a heated discussion at the emergency meeting weathermansam informed us about on July 13th between the logging interest and almost everyone else.

The Forest Service has talked to the logger on compartment 101 (Mattox Creek watershed) and they had come to an agreement that the logger would not do any more cutting in compartment 101.  This is a great victory for us and especially Wild South and their efforts.  As Charles Borden put it, Elrand Denson, our new forest ranger for the BNF, has had his first test and he passed with flying colors.  I was very much pleased.  Also in other compartments on the east side of the forest that had already been sold, they have agreed to not cut any hardwood  > 12 ".

"It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it while you can, while it is still there. So go out there and hunt and fish and mess around.  Ramble out yonder, explore the forests, encounter the grizz, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air. Sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, that lovely, mysterious and awesome space.  I promise you this one sweet victory, over those deskbound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by calculators. : you will outlive the bastards."
