Let's build a Whitewater/Adventure Park in NE Alabama

Hey everybody, we have the ball rolling and have influential people interested in a whitewater/adventure sports park. Even if you are not a paddler, we want to incorporate hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, rock climbing, geocaching, Frisbee golf, camping, and anything else, so there is something for everybody.
What we need now is a loud voice of support with lots of numbers. We have set up a Facebook Page for everyone to sign on to if you facebook.
Please look up the page and click join or like or whatever it is this week and show your support of a venue like this coming to Alabama.
There are several location options we are looking at but the main thing is getting it here and showing support.
Here's the link:

!/group.php?gid=149477471745573
Check it out, make suggestions, comments, questions, whatever. We will post progress reports as we get new info.
Thanks in advance. Carl W.

I guess I'm curious to know more about the potential locations and whether this will be developing existing natural waterways or creating artificial courses. There are obviously some locations where such development would be wholly inappropriate. However, I've seen this pulled off in other states very successfully by adapting existing non-wild waterways.
Also, the link busted.

Thanks Joshua, for adding the link. One location is at an existing lowhead dam on the upper Tallapoosa River. The dam hasn't been in use in years and should be taken out anyway. The other location would be an artificial course but with close proximity to other activities. Possibly making a connector trail to the Pinhoti, mountain biking, and the Ladiga trail. Using features that are already in place. Being a center piece hub for all types of outdoor sports. We welcome all input. Carl W.

Oh okay. I was a tad afraid the plan would be to develop an existing wild stream, but I should have had more faith. That sounds like a decent enough idea.

Great news. Rick McLaughlin from McLaughlin Whitewater Desing Group will be here next week if scheduling works out to look at a few locations. We hope to get some ideas and info on the next steps to year round paddlin right here at home.

Thanks for asking. the answer is a resounding,
YES YES YES
. We presented this finally to the City finance director and He said we had him at hello. He loved this opportunity. We are 2 weeks into a feasibility study and we are excited that that is under way. The cool thing is we now have two different entities interested in the park. It's looking like it will happen at one site or the other. But the bottom line is, it will most likely be built.
Please help spread the word. Thanks. Carl W.

Carl,
I saw you on Fox6 at 6pm last night - pretty exciting! It would be great to have a whitewater course in the Anniston/Oxford area! With the mountain biking park being developed at Coldwater plus the close proximity to the Pinhoti, this would be awesome! Do you know what length of course(plus skill level) might be installed?

Awesome! I love water parks. We just got back from six flags whitewater park in Atlanta. It's seriously one of the funnest things to do to me.

lindajamison76, where exactly is the "CXGBCNV Trail" that you list as your favorite? Are you for real?

Thanks Rachel, It is very exciting to work on this project and think it may come to pass. I noticed your favorite, Bartram Canoe Trail. We spent a few days paddling and camping down there a couple of springs ago. Very nice. Lots of gators.
