Our Pinhoti Challenge hikes continue!  One hike in October, two in November, and two in December will finish up the Challenge!  Plans are to start over with Hike #1 come January 1st!

10/16. Pinhoti Challenge dayhike.  This month, we’ll be hiking a section of trail located in Section 15 of the Alabama Pinhoti between Porter’s Gap and Clairmont Gap.  This is the 16th hike in our Pinhoti Challenge series, and gains a rating of strenuous due to the extremely rocky terrain on certain parts of the section, somewhat warm fall weather, and distance.  We’ll climb from around 800 feet to 1,500 feet.  Along the 8.9 mile trek, we should see some good fall colors, numerous rocky outcroppings, and Talladega Creek.  Make sure to bring a camera.  Hiking boots a necessity, as well as plenty of water and a picnic lunch.  There will be an optional dinner afterwards.

Meet at 7 a.m. at the Cracker Barrel at the intersection of I-459 and U.S. 280 in Birmingham, or 9 a.m. at the Target in Oxford just off I-20 east at exit 188.

The hike Saturday looks to be picture-perfect.  Morning low of 40 and afternoon high of 77.  Early colors are appearing!

Turned out to be an awesome hike!  30 folks on the trail on a gorgeous October Saturday.  The leaves were a lot more colorful than anyone was expecting.  No yellow jackets!!
