Cave Creek/Pinhoti Loop

We had an awesome day. Squidbilly, Jackson & I. We hiked Cave Creek trail and took a break on an overlook looking east toward Lineville. Cave creek was running nicely. The water in it was crystal clear & the flow was very good. We had lunch at the cave near the trail. After lunch we continued to the Pinhoti connector trail and crossing over the ridge tried to identify what we thought was the old Odum Scout Trail. Each of us had hiked it many times years ago before the Pinhoti or Cave Creek tails were built. It pretty much runs the ridge top back to the state park. There were places we were bushwhacking and not sure where it was but we would pick it up again. Finally we decided that we needed to get to a trail we were sure of and dropped off the west side of the ridge to the Pinhoti. We hiked the pinhoti to the point where it turned back toward McDill point. We cut up the swag over to the other side and picked it up again, bypassing McDill and continued to Hernandez Peak. We followed the Pinhoti back to the trail head. This was a very good loop hike & my first trip on Cave Creek Trail. Lots of folks out today. Thanks Squidbilly & Jackson for the company. Carl W.

Thanks Firedog, we thoroughly enjoyed it too. I love getting off trail sometimes and just exploring.

Great hike! I did that about a month ago. Went in at trailhead and to Cave Creek - cruised down to the Pinohti and went left to Chinnebee Silent trialhead - took a left and climbed the ridge - pitched a tent up on top of Odum Point for the night away from everyone. AWESOME view! I love that area!
