Edible Plants Expert

Is there anyone around Birmingham that is knowledable in edible plants?  I'd like to learn more, but books aren't the best way I learn.  I'd like to find someone to hike with who can show me the plants in the wild, pick some and eat them.  Anyone know anyone?

Well, that guy certainly sounds like the real deal.  I doubt he'd be willing to travel from Gadsden to Birmingham to teach a handful of 10-11 boys some skills.

I'm looking for someone that can teach the boys about what plants are edible, medicinal, poisionous and the usages of different types of trees.  Also, I guess I should say that rather than being around Birmingham I should say in the Birmingham area.

This might be surprising to hear, but I'm planning ahead - can you believe it?  It would probably be March when I'm ready to start talking about things like this.  Perhaps we could hike at Oak Mtn?
