After several cancellations, we finally got out with the forest service yesterday morning to remove the birdman glyph.  I did not anticipate us having to carry that thing out of there, or how heavy it would be.  Due to the business with the meet and greet thing, no one from Wild South attended the cutting, but Charles Seifried was on hand for some photography.  I course didn't come away empty handed in the photo dept and Mark got some as well.  We got it out, though!  It's resting somewhere where hopefully it won't crack.  It was incredibly waterlogged from all the rain/snow these past few weeks.  If all goes to plan it will hopefully make it's debut in the museum relatively soon.   As always, here's some "action" shots and of course about 40 more *here*.

I'm glad we finally got it out and really glad you were able to make it Sam since we did have to carry it out. The guys from the F.S. were good guys. They did a good job cutting and helped carry it the whole way. It was good to finally meet you in person Sam. Maybe we can get together on a hike sometime.

Good to meet you too, and I usually try for a hike every other weekend at least.  Going somewhere in Sipsey tomorrow, actually.  Maybe Quillan Creek, I haven't decided.  I'm still sore from carrying the tree...old injuries and my upper body strength isn't that great, surprised at how heavy it was, but it was undoubtedly from being waterlogged.  At least the rest of you needed a break Smiley

Those FS guys were good guys.  I really appreciate them doing this for us.  Next time, though, we choose the closer trailhead!

What museum will this be put in? I would love to see it along with any other artifacts pulled/saved from this area.

I think the plan is to get it mounted inside within a month or two.
