I am planning to head up to north Alabama for some hiking this Friday through the weekend. I was checking to see if anyone will be out hiking or maybe suggest to a place for me to hike.

Considering it.  It'd be off trail somewhere in Bankhead, probably.

With that much time to hike you could do some realy cool stuff...How about parking at NF Rd 221 and entering the forest via Eagle creek. If you get there late Friday you could camp above deer skull falls, then pick up Saturday following the creek NE to the Sipsey river. Here's a thread on that area: http://www.alatrails.com/...dex.php/topic,1928.0.html . That will place you on the south side of the river. Follow that to see Featherhawk falls, then ford across to follow TR209. You could follow Bee Branch and see Big Tree, then backtrack to TR209 and continue west to see many caves and other pois. Then maybe ford the Sipsey again, (back to the south side) to follow White Creek and see some amazing waterfalls. All about White Creek: http://www.alabamatentand...01/white-creek-trail.html . This is a good area to camp for Saturday night too. Then Sunday morning head south on white creek linking into TR201. Then you could follow that back out to Cranal Road, loop via Little Ugly, or follow TR202 back to the Sipsey River and loop back out on the trail you came in.

If you want to backpack, I'd definitely go with the Sipsey.

If just dayhiking, Sipsey is still good.  Could go to Monte Sano or DeSoto State Parks or around Cheaha.

i would suggest trailheads and routes without a ford. Mid thigh ( or worse) in the River in this weather does not make one a happy hiker. Many options

Sam, have you ever been in that drainage before?
