I am planning an overnight  backpacking trip and was thinking about parking at Porters gap.  I was wondering if there has been any car vandalisim at this trail head?  Also,  does anyone have any info about the trail conditions from porters gap to adams gap?   Any thing else I need to know?  Water?    Thanks!

In early November the only area I had trouble in was from Clairmont Gap (Gunterstown Road) to Patterson Gap. The blazes were missing or faded at best in this area and the trail was overgrown in places. I ran into some trail maintainers at the rock gardens and they actually warned me about the above area - they said no one had done any work in that part in a while. The only reliable water I crossed was Talladega Creek - just a little over 3 miles north of Porters Gap. I did see a couple of puddles in seasonal sources that I think would be flowing now considering the amount of rain/snow we've had this season.

Every journey begins with a single step.

We parked our truck at Porter's Gap back in October when we did an overnighter on Section 4 (Horn Mt to Porter's Gap).  We didn't have any problems.  There were several other vehicles parked there also.  We haven't hiked from Porter's to Adam's Gap yet so I can't help with the water question.  Sorry!

I've had no problems parking at Porters Gap and I haven't heard of anyone who has.

It's a pretty dry section of the trail.  The only places to get water are near the two trailheads unless you get some from Talladega Creek.
