Was thinking about doing this. Anyone let me know if this sounds stupid:

From where Blackwater and Juniper Creek meet, me and my girlfriend were going to hike up Juniper to Red Rock Camping Area one day, and the following day kayak in our tandem back down Juniper until we hit blackwater. Then head home.

We were gonna put a car at each end, leaving one car with kayak on top at the Red Rock camping area. Any chance it'd get stolen?

Thanks for any advice.

I honestly wouldn't advise leaving a kayak where someone could steal it.  Not everyone that hangs out in the woods is an honest person.  With my luck it'd get stolen.  Maybe you have better luck than me.

Both Red Rock and Deaton are popular take outs/put ins. i would find a good stash spot, maybe flip them upside down and cover them with leaves or something.

I have never been south of Deaton on the Blackwater and have heard that it gets pretty swampy after that jct. You could drop off a kayak around the juniper trail near Red Rock Rd and then leave your car at Indian Ford Rd. That would cut out a few river miles on the Juniper but it is an option that saves you from yaking back upstream to Deaton.

its doable, go for it and report back.

We left monday morning, and just decided not to worry about bringing the kayak along with not knowing the logistics. Just hiking Juniper from blackwater to red rock and back for a 2-day trip.

Will plan on doing what was suggested above sometime this summer. Water was painfully cold yesterday.
