We were in Indian Tomb Hollow yesterday and saw some trillium starting to open and saw a violet blooming. Looks like we are in for an early spring.

I hope so. We're still not out of frost danger till April though.

Members are now reporting open or opening wildflowers in Bankhead, including Dutchman's Breeches and Trillium. Looking back at my records from previous years it isn't *that* early, but still a bit early. Hope my orchids aren't early, I'll have to rework my whole April. Wink They seem to be pretty calendar accurate, however...

I've never found Dutchman Breeches this early.  Good job and good photos.  Thanks for the heads up.

According to my grandmother - if it thunders on a day in February, it will frost on that day in April.

This has been passed down in my family for many generations (in Alabama) and, in my own observations, this old wives tale is often accurate.

We had thunder on February 24th and February 28th. We could be in for a very late frost this year (or at least a late cold snap).
