So I saw an article sometime ago on this which seems to be gone but here is a video demonstration the whole thing.

<a href="http://www.metacafe.com/fplayer/342809/metacafe.swf" target="_blank">http://www.metacafe.com/fplayer/342809/metacafe.swf</a>

I had just discovered the Penny Alcohol Stove by Mark Jurey and thought it would be a neat idea to combine the two. So I used my dremel with a polishing bit and some polishing compound and now I have yet another emergency fire starter in my rig.

Not that the lighters and waterproof matches I carry are very likely to fail but I figure it's an extra level of protection given the right circumstances. This mod would most likely be better suited to hiking out west because of the difference in amount of canopy.

Another Hmmmm from Rob.   Suppose it could be used for pest control too. Here's how.... Take chocolate bar and place on ground  approx. 20 feet from tent, when ants accumulate burn em' with the coke can, end of picnic for the ants. ( go ahead......call the humane society)
Seriously, who woulda thunk it would work, the fire starter that is. Curiosly intreguing. BTW  Hmmmm just simply means I'm pondering. Happy trails

Who would waste their chocolate though? Maybe one should just use some nice polish.

To mod the alcohol stove I actually used a dremel and polishing compund. I am not about to waste perfectly good chocolate.
The original concept came from some survivalist website where they would kick out random things everyday and see who could light a fire from them. This was one of the stranger ones. I was unable to find the original article.

This does work with a decent polish on it providing you can get good sunlight, I tried it. Next thing you want to do is get some good clear spray lacquer ang give it a light coat so it won't loose it's shine in a week or two.
