My hike started interestingly enough. I parked at the Talladega Creek Bridge and noticed a sign on Tryg’s house saying, “Car Got Repossessed But I’m Still Here,” which turned out to not be true….(or is it?) Anyhow, Alice asked who I was through the door and I replied that I needed to pay to park. She opened the door and right away told me that her husband was trying to kill her. Needless to say, I payed and quickly hit the trail!
The Pinhoti reminded me right away of the inclines that I would be encountering the entire hike as I made my way up the first of many hills. The leaf covered ground was still wet from all the rain and I enjoyed an occasional shower myself. The morning air was cool and crisp and carried the scent of the forest that took my mind to pleasant thoughts. The trail winds up and down many hills and has a lot of rock work along the way. I found the first waterfall that I’ve seen on this trail and many streams as well.
I hiked from Talladega Bridge to Cheaha State Park, but have only written up to Patterson Gap. If my hike began by meeting a strange person, I’d say it ended by making a new friend. I had arranged a shuttle service with Bob and enjoyed meeting him. He was waiting at the end of the trail with an ice cold bottle of water. I spent some time chatting with him about his AT and PT adventures. I’d recommend his service to anyone because it’s a great service and Bob is a super cool guy.
