Happy to say that as of 10:30 this morning I crossed over into Georgia completing the Alabama Pinhoti and a 2 1/2 day 38 mile hike. Many things to show and tell on another day ....

Congrats bro! That is quite a feat and adventure. How many trips did it take you to section hike?

Thanks. Hope to share some pictures, video, and comments later. For now, suffice it to say that the names Dugger, Oakey, Augusta Mine Ridge, Davis, and Indian Mountain are forever branded in my mind. For me, that combination of mountains was the toughest I encountered on the entire Pinhoti - tough, but very rewarding. The views back south from Indian Mountain to Flagpole Mountain cannot be described - there, lined up in clear view were Davis Mountain, Augusta Mine Ridge, Oakey, and Dugger Mountain. Awesome view!

It took me five trips:

Hike #1 (My wife and I)
Section 7

Hike #2 (My wife and I)
Sections 8 and 9

Hike #3 (My wife and I)
Section 10 and 11

Hike #4 (Solo)
Sections 4, 5 and 6

Hike #5 (Solo)
Section 11, 12 and 13

Way to go, Buck!   It took us a lot longer to complete the Alabama Pinhoti. I think I felt the same way you did when you looked to the South from Flagpole Mountain at Davis,Augusta,Oakey and Dugger. Awesome memories.  Pretty soon we'll have some new trail too.
I guess we'll have to do the Georgia Pinhoti now.

Congrats Buck!  I have only done about half of it.  You have done well.  You know you'll have to go back and do sections 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, and 13 over with your wife!

Looking forward to some pictures.

Sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, that lovely, mysterious and awesome space.  I promise you this one sweet victory, over those deskbound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by calculators. : you will outlive the bastards." ...  Whats your next goal?
As for as hiking goals I don't know if I would consider it a goal right now or just a strong desire, but I want to hike more of the Appalachian Trail.

The other thing that I am going to do is get involved with trail maintenance on the Pinhoti. As others would surely say, when you walk the entire trail you realize just what a job it is to maintain. I'd like to help maintain it for others ... and I plan to get back on it myself at every opportunity.

My wife has not gone the past two trips because she's been in graduate school for almost a year (will finish in May). She's a 2nd grade teacher working on a counseling degree. Hiking without her was different, especially when I stopped to camp each night. Our ritual was to set up camp, eat, write in our journals, and keep one another awake so that we did not fall asleep too early. By myself, I had a problem staying awake after dark. And one of my favorite things was waking up and sitting outside the tent as day broke - drinking coffee in the wilderness with her. Even without her the mornings are one of my favorite times of a hike - the sounds, cool air, smell, and rested feeling.

With that said, she actually encouraged me to go alone and see just how far I could go in the allotted time. She's heard me talk of all the places we're going back to in these six sections. She's seen the pictures and videos of these places and is itching to go.

Pictures soon, I hope

Congrats ! It's a wonderful walk! Stairway gets much mention but Dugger is high and dry.
