Anybody interested in some Sipsey/Bankhead wildflower scouting Saturday 3/19?

I'm probably going to scout out some productive sites in the Borden, Thompson, and maybe ITH areas on Saturday, probably starting around 9-9:30. I'd be happy to have company. I'd do the Flint Creek Botanical Area, but that road was so bad last year I suspect we'd need a tracked vehicle to get down there this year. Wink It'll all be short-distance stuff with some driving between sites, nice and leisurely. Weather looks great, too.

My wife and oldest son would like to join you.  The youngest son and I will be doing an overnighter somewhere in the Widerness (have not decided yet). The boys and I have talked about getting Mom out in the Sipsey, and this sounds like a great opportunity for her.  Let us know where and when to meet you.

I'm looking to start at Borden trailhead around 9:30. I'll check back in tonight to confirm.

Correction...No way am I making it to Sipsey tomorrow. Going to have to stick closer to home (Nashville), got something else to deal with tomorrow afternoon and need to be home earlier than Sipsey will allow.

Sorry to hear that, they were looking forward to it.  No worries, they'll get out there anyway. Good luck, I hope the deal goes well.

I'll be in Bankhead for an overnighter tomorrow, but we're going by river.  If you happen to see a group of boaters, and one of them in a Pamlico 120 then please hit us up.

How was your trip? We all had a great one. My wife got a good introduction to The Sipsey Wilderness with a hike down Borden Creek Saturday, guided by our oldest son. She loved it-says it is a peaceful and beautiful place. Impressed with the trees! They saw some kayakers too.  Before their hike they dropped my younger son and I off near Wolfpen, where we began our overnighter. We did Eagle / Little Ugly to Sipsey. Then 209 upstream to camp at a waterfall between Saltpeter Cave and Bee Branch. After exploring the Saltpeter Cave / Furnace cliffline we backtracked a bit to go up Bee Branch to see The Big Tree. After climbing up and out of East Bee we ended our trip by taking 204 to 224 and out to Borden Trailhead.

Sorry, but I didn't take any pictures of the yellow trout lillies or the virginia bluebells, since this is a flower thread.
But here's a few pics..
