I just completed a hike from Porter's Gap to the Cheaha Trail head this past week and I have a itch to do the whole thing later this summer. I am looking for someone or possibly a SMALL group who wants to complete the entire trail beginning around July 22. I am flexible on the dates to come degree, so If you're interested, please let me know.

I would love to thru hike the Pinhoti, but Im booked for the summer (family etc etc) Speaking from experiance, the Pinhoti can be smoking hot that time of year, and very dry----long stretches with out water. Plan carefully and have a great trip!

I plan on hitting the trail from Cave Creek north around May. Not sure how I'd know where you are at that time. I post my hikes on my site. Maybe post your plan here?

My plans are to hike south starting in late July. Good luck on your journey though.

I just completed section hiking the whole of the Pinhoti last week with my friend. We did it during weekends starting in November at Bull Gap, and finished last week at the terminus on the BMT in GA.
I agree with stevebo that it's going to be awfully hot out there in July. You might want to look hard at caching water in several places before you begin.
Great trail. It's worth the trip.

I would disagree with you about needing extra water for a dry spell hike on the Pinhoti. If you have transportation, you can drop off a few milk jugs at some road junctions for sure....... but,
There may not be water
on
the trail, but if you don't mind bushwhacking down hill at some of the ravines, you should find some within a quarter mile or so. If you have a GPS with a good topo map on it, it gives you a good idea where streams start so you can pick the closest places from the trail to bushwhack to.
Remember for that extra treat - huckleberries will be ripe late June- early July and the "other", bigger blueberries ( not nearly as common) will be ripe nearer August along the trail. Native grapes will be ripe in August and then muscadines will be a few weeks later. Plan to camp near a stream and rinse off every night right in the stream - please, no soap though !
Also, there is a guy I meet on Whiteblaze that is going to do a 1 week section of the Pinhoti the weekend after Easter. He is from Columbus, GA........... Geomaniac . I told him I might want to join him for the Ga part once he gets there. He's starting from the south, so i don't know for sure how far he plans to get or when he will do another section.
