Hey Guys!
Have you ever said this to yourself - "I would like to give back to the trail someday!" Well here's a good chance to do it. It's also a good chance to get to know some folks in the clubs who do this all the time who can help you extend your service to more than just this one day. Good folks, good opportunity.
I just got this email from the FS:
Hi folks.
If we havn’t told you recently how much we appreciate you…our volunteers….let me say it now: We just couldn’t do it without you!
If you’ve been out in the forest lately, you might notice that not everyone appreciates the pristine beauty of our woods. You might see litter, old tires, mattresses, or even a jet ski (yes, we had a jet ski dumped on the national forest).
On April 22nd, we need your help to clean up some of the mess others have made out in OUR forest. Earth Day is a time for all of us to pull together and make a difference in our environment. So, on April 22nd, Earth Day, we are hosting a Clean-up Day on both the Talladega and Shoal Creek Ranger Districts. We are working now to gather up trash bags and dumpsters and figuring out how to dispose of old cars, boats, and jet skis.
The plan is to start on that Friday morning at each district office and split into work crews after a brief safety talk. We will then go out as a group to the various sites we have identified as needing a clean-up. After a morning’s worth of work cleaning up these sites, we will reconvene at the district offices, off-load our garbage and debris, and share a lunch and pass out our Earth Day t-shirts!
I realize that it’s a couple of weeks until Earth Day, but we would love for you to put it on your calendar now. Please, we need your help. If you know of groups or organizations that might be interested in participating, please let us know. And, if you would like to be in on the planning portion of this project, we’d love to have your input.
Thank you for everything you do and we look forward to seeing you on Earth Day!
