I hope someone has some accurate help on the actual name of the Sipsey. A friend claims it is called the West Fork of the Sipsey. I contend that it is the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River. I'm sure Uncle Wayne should know which is correct.

I don't know about 'offical', but the Black Warrior River is composed of the Sipsey Fork, the Mulberry Fork, and the Locust Fork.

The Sipsey Fork itself is broken down into an East and West fork, being Brushy Creek and Sipsey River respectively.  I guess that would make 'The Sipsey' the West Fork of the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River?

The Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River. We drop the "fork" sometimes in conversation. There is a Sipsey River that starts in Winston County and flows south and west to the Tombigbee River.  Brushy is one of many branches of the Sipsey Fork that flow into Smith Lake.

Thanks everyone. I did some further research and in most cases it is listed as the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River but in the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act it is referred to as the West Fork of the Sipsey Fork. Most historical maps list it as the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River. I guess the only conclusion that it is both.
