Having trouble with my website ftp program, but here's some pics for now of the Big Tree as of yesterday.  Camped Saturday night by lower White Creek Falls and made the trek up Bee Branch yesterday morning.  Past the intersection of West and East Bee Branch creeks, it's bad.  It's practically impassable in spots, and requires some bushwhacking to find your way through it all.  Ended up crossing the creek and hugging the north flank of the canyon wall and then went out down the usual route.  Someone's tagged some of it with ribbons, but it's still a tough go.  You can thank the smaller tree to the south of the Big Tree for sparing it more damage, as the beech that fell sheared a lot of it's limbs off.  The base of the tree is surrounded by deadfall now as well.  I'll post more photos and video when things start working again.

This will be a good chance for the land around there to heal. Without 100's of people stomping around.

5 other people wandered up while we sitting there.  Two guys came in from 224/Bunyan Hill, the other 3 managed to find their way up through East Bee's original trail.  I think all of us were exhausted.  It's not for the faint of heart, that's for sure.

Also, I'd assumed this trail was closed, but there was a notice at the Randolph Trailhead that aptly noted that the best access to Bee Branch was from that same trailhead.  I'm guessing it was posted at other spots as well.  That's a beast of a hike if you're day hiking it.   Going from that, 204/Buck Rough is closed, but 204A/Bee Branch is open.

On 209, we missed the alternate route around a bunch of dead trees and was almost as much a nightmare tangle as east bee was.  I shudder to think what Thompson Creek looks like if it's worse.  I agree with you, though, both of those locales need time to rejuvenate some.  The sight of the live trees being cut at eye of the needle made me cringe.

I believe this is the damage from the tornado the week before the big Tuscaloosa tornado.  I went up there in between those 2 tornadoes and this appears to be the same damage I saw...  Planning on going back up there soon to check out Parker falls and possibly quillan falls as well...  Any one been up to those yet?
