Seriously before you go out and buy a backpacking stove for 100 bucks you should check this out.

I use a 6 oz tuna can drilled similar to a Super-Cat stove. There is a pic of it in action in my Sipsey Wilderness pics in the gallery section. It will boil 6 cups of water and simmer long enough to make an entire package of mac & cheese.
(No, I don't eat that much by myself. There are usually 3 of us.)

For anybody that wants to try making their own alcohol stove, these are some of my favorite links:

By far the most simple is a tea-light tin stove, and also probably the cheapest and lightest.

I find it interesting and amazing that when I bought my MSR Whisperlight it was "THE STOVE"....many moons ago. Now, if it's not from a beer/coke can, it's just not cool.
Don't get me wrong, my whisperlight is still dependable, bombproof, and holds its place there at the top of my selections, but the creativity of the coke stove is just great!

While my husband enjoys disemboweling Heineken cans in the basement, I do not. Please stop encouraging him. I can't drink any more beer, my clothes hate me. Besides I really want to get that $100 bucks worth out of the stove I forced him to buy when I could barely get him to camp. HA! HA!

Yes we have a whisperlite as well and yes it is great. I still plan on using it for group trips. So the old miser woman who lives in my wifes head feels like she is getting her money's worth out of it. But understand I left behind a hobby I had for 14 years just recently and making the perfect backpacking stove rig has become my latest obsession.
So for dinner we are having chicken picata except I'm making it with beer instead of wine. And for desert we are having beer and ice cream floats.
Would you like a beverage with that dear?
I have just the thing.

Yeah that's great, but we're out of beer.
