Albert Mountain Firetower on the AT

« on: October 23, 2011, 03:38:17 PM »

Just returned from four days of hiking on the Appalachian Trail in North Carolina where I tried out my newest piece of equipment the Platypus GravityWorks Water Filter - thanks to the 20% off sale at REI.

All I can say is that I never plan to "pump" again. I never knew filtering water could be so easy, convenient, fast, etc. than it was/is using the Platypus GravityWorks Water Filter. I've never had one moments problem out of my MSR pump filter, but it does take a while to filter water in large quantities. The Gravity Works is simply unbelievable and worked as advertised.

And the other good thing about this set-up is that I lowered my filter weight from approx 17 ounces to 7.4 (I did not use the clean water bag that came with the Gravity Works - instead, I pumped straight into my 1 liter platypus water bottles that I've been carrying).

I cannot say enough good things about this filter.

I must have been good this year, I got one of these for Christmas. angel
Four ounces lighter than my Katadyn HP, ability to carry 8 liters of water to camp,no pumping.
Can't wait to try it out.
