Happened to find myself at the Sportsman's Warehouse today and saw an ultralite Grand Trunk hammock for $19.99. Had been wanting to try a hammock before I spent big bucks on one so I picked this one up to try out. Course it's no frills and no bug netting but I really only hike in fall, winter and spring so don't really need one.
Plan on giving it a try this coming weekend down at Sipsey.

I've got a Grand Trunk ultralight myself.  I made the switch to hammock camping back in August, and I've done 3 or 4 outings with it.  I buried myself in the sleeping bag, and with a fire nearby, had no trouble with insects at all.  I did have some issue with large black ants wanting to crawl down the rope, but a few spritzes of bug spray on the rope and where the rope meets the tree took care of that with no problem.

Ants!   Who would have thought about them climbing down the rope. LOL!

They didn't show up until the sun went down either.  I was more skittish about the 2 cottonmouths and 3 copperheads we'd seen late that evening near camp hopping into bed with me that night than those crazy old ants, though.

2 cottonmouths and 3 copperheads!!!
Cross-reference to another post,
That'll do more than a whole squad of ridgerunners
to keep folks on a high visibility well trodden path.

happy/careful hiking

This was at the one good campsite near Sougahoagdee Falls.  Back at the bridge/trailhead the day after we saw two more cottonmouths out sunning.  This was back in August at least, probably not out there in crazy numbers now that it's a little cooler at least.

I can handle the snakes, but I hate things that crawl on me in the night. LOL!
