Wed. 11-2-11 6:30 Am 45 degrees Cheaha parking lot

We chose the 12 mile loop instead of the 6 mile.
Today and maybe for another week the colors are near peak.
Bad news, the water at Cave Creek is down to a trickle and maybe not even that
unless we get some rain.
More bad news, no water at the P/O/C junction, I wasn't surprised.
Besides the beautiful colors and the panoramic view from McDill overlook a little
good news for those doing multi-sections in this area. The Cheaha store has a
frost proof spigot right in front of their ice machines that is available to hikers 24/7

12+ miles, 7.5 hrs, several sore muscles

Next week; Adams Gap to Porters Gap

Thanks for the report. Friday, my boys will be leading their fellow Beta Club members(and mom) on that hike.  They will do the short loop.

Thanks for the info. Water is always a big issue on those sections.  Where exactly to you mean when you reference water on the Cave Creek?  There is one creek on Cave Creek that normally has water and there in one on the section of Nubbin betweeb Cave Creek and Odum that almost always has water.  That section of Nubbin is frequently thought to be on Cave Creek.

The only water source was the Cave Creek crossing of the trail. There would probably be a better supply down the stream bed
a short distance. By my estimate, this would be about half way to the Nubbin Creek junction or roughly 2 miles. This was the only
water we saw for the entire 12 mile loop.
The stream between Nubbin Creek and Odum Scout was and appeared to be dry for some time. My map shows that one to be the
Mill Shoal Creek and the trail crosses it at the uppermost point.
I didn't make as thorough report as sometimes, but I figure if folks saw where we were and had specific questions they, like yourself
would ask for more detail, but you better ask quick while I still remember.
Always glad to help,
