Welcome to the 27th annual Mulberry Fork Canoe and Kayak Festival. This event includes the Mulberry Fork Canoe and Kayak Races, which are part of the Alabama Cup race series and also the Dixie Division Open Boat Championships. We have also added the ever so exciting Boatercross.
Most importantly, this event is a gathering of paddlers from across the country to kick off the spring paddling season in the Southeast. The event this year will be March 1st and 2nd of 2008. The festival will be located near Garden City, Alabama, located right on the banks of the Mulberry River at 5-O rapid, which is very convenient to Interstate I-65.
Included in the celebration will be such activities as a silent auction, raffle, camping, Slalom races, downriver races and Boatercross.
The Mulberry race course is spectator friendly. Walking trails right beside the course allow spectators to enjoy the day’s events. The awards banquet will be Saturday night in the heated tent and the food will be provided by Jim-n-Nick's BBQ of Gardendale Al. (YES, WE WILL HAVE THE HEATED TENT AGAIN!)
One Eyed Mary will be playing in the Heated Tent right after the awards banquet. One Eyed Mary is Bob Griffin’s band. If you don’t know Bob, a premier open boater in his day, then that is just one more reason to come the races. (He also designs and prints all the race shirts and stickers.)
We will also be serving our Famous breakfast, chicken and veggie burritos and an assortment of food to choose from Fresh and HOT! Sodas, Starbucks Coffee and hot coco will be available, so the drinks are covered too.
