Does anyone know if you can camp on the pinhoti trail outside of the established campsites such as what is found at pine glen campground? Im interested in hiking from pine glen to coleman lake with an overnight near sweetwater lake.....

Camping is allowed any where along the trail. *I* would not camp anywhere's near Sweetwater. It is frequented by locals at all hours (theres a boat ramp there.) The day I hiked that area on my thru, it was red neck nekid swimming day...

You could camp at the Laurel Shelter about a mile or 2 North of Sweetwater lake.

Seems I remember that place now. Isn't there a sign on the road that says something about Pinhoti Trail ? Old Home place.... close to what most called the East Gate Road or 532?

Been to long for me. We always came through Piedmont, across Dugger Mtn...and then on # 500 ( North Gate Rd ) to Coleman Lake area. Since I moved to GA, I usually go through Edwardsville, on Hwy 61 ( # 553 ), then turn right on # 548 to Coleman Lake area.
I'm sure over the next two weeks, walking the Pinhoti Trail, I'll remember a lot about the Alabama woods. Probably forgot how steep some of those hills can be too!
Sure hope some others are hiking next week, but maybe a gobbler waking me up early in the mornings, will keep me going down the trail to Cheaha.
Dang glad the snow melted off ! LOL
