Ok, well I thought I would take a little shortcut on saturday.  I parked at the little pull in on the north side of the road just past the wolfpen hunters camp.  The plan was to go north/northwest and end up where the sipsey and wolfpen intersect.  Well I misjudged during my bushwhack throught the woods.  Here is a rough description of where I went.

Entered through the pull off, walked N/NE through a very slight draw and up to the top you can see from the parking area.  Picked up an old log road and traveled it north.  Dropped off the the right (east) into a bottom with a small creek.  followed the creek all the way to a waterfall.  I would guess the fall at around 50 +/- feet.  What is the name of this water fall?

The problem I ran into was that I was at the top of a bluff and was unable to find anyway down.   I tried to go west but it was so thick it was truly impossible.  I then looked at going east but it was to thick.  I then backtracked back to the truck.

I then went to the wolfpen cemetary and parked there and used the trail behind it to get to a small creek that led to a small 10-15 foot waterfall.  I am guessing this to be wolfpen falls.  I ran out of time and did not make it as far as I would have liked.

Guess this means I will have to go back.

I did not see another hiker, but did see another vehichle parked at the cemetary.
I did see very minimal hog sign, and I saw one deer.

Overall nice trip.

Thanks,

CB

CB,

Did you take a picture by any chance?

Can you describe the waterfall? Straight drop or cascade? What color were the rocks? Etc...

(That little pull in is also the "trailhead" for Eagle Creek, and there IS a logging road in that area...)

The reason for the questions, btw, is that depending on your height estimation accuracy, there are a few falls in the area that could fit the bill. Most people are off by about 25-50%.

I would have to say that 50' is of course a guess.  It sure looks high when you are standing on the edge and looking straight down.  It is a drop off, not a cascade.  You could walk up to the edge and if you took another step you would fall straight down.  It was a nice water fall. There was also a cascade type fall about 100 yards up stream from this waterfall.  The cascade was about 8-10' into a pool that was about 12' across and maybe 2' deep at its deepest.

It was a nice area as there was no garbage, no tell tell signs of a lot of foot traffic and I did not see one campsite.

I'm not 100% sure.

There is a fairly high one on Hemlock Creek (and a shorter one with a neat plunge pool), see Toph's picture at:

I'm not 100% sure about the falls on Wolfpen, although I think it is about that size, too. Nobody has a picture of it, ANYWHERE, apparently.

Well I would have to agree with Hemlock falls.   Just for fun I used the picture with the guy in it to guestimate the size and I would have to say 25'-30'.  So my 50 was a bad guess.   It sure seemed more like 100' when you are looking over the edge.  Thanks to the rain the fall was running much better than in the picture.  It was quite beautiful.

I am pretty certain on the Wolfpen falls.  I had my cameral but didnt even think to take a picture.  In comparison it is nowhere near the quality of Hemlock.

Thanks for the help.  Next I need to make it to fernglade.
