I didn't wanna revive the thread that was buried before, but wanted to show something I found at a thrift store.  It should work awesome and weighs less than an ounce.

Trail coffee maker

You can buy it http://www.melitta.com/it...?T1=64+0008&Cat=here..

Not extremely compact, but uses standard #2 cone filters, and much cheaper than the $20 filters from REI.

This is what we use. The MSR Mugmate. No filter and easy cleanup. It's great for tea as well.

Life's too short for bad coffee and crabby wives.

At least I can avoid 1 of them.  laugh

Turpentine makes a great thinner for some of my paints....and a pretty good cleaner if I do say so myself.

Why do you ask? Smiley I hope you're not going to tell me it's in my coffee. If so, I'm doomed!

I never said the instant was great, but it's better than nothing. About the crabby wife,...I got nothing.

My wife would say that being crabby is natural too, but i don't gotta' like it!  Just my lil' input on the matter. Actually all of the options look pretty viable, especially early in the morning to get the body up and runnin'.  I really like your resourcefulness Flemdawg, you seem to have quite a grasp on what to look for and where to look for it.
BTW, I'm sure the turpentine would keep nasty bugs out of your water, like giardia and such, so you could lighten the load even more by ditching the water filter.  Undecided  Happy Trails!

Tea, it comes in single serving filter paper bags! 2 cups of tea = 1 cup of coffee in the caffeine game. Grab some honey packets from the local Chic-Fil-A or Starbucks and you have hot morning beverage  Grin  Used tea bags are also soothing and antiseptic to cold sore breakouts, blisters and stings. Just some advice from a non-crabby wife. (Don't hate Matt too much, I may not be crabby, but my emotions are at the mercy of the hormones, so I cry more than I'd like to.)

Hey guys, thought I'd jump on this coffee bandwagon.   Smiley  Maybe I just missed something, but I use the Folgers Singles, and it isn't instant... they are just little coffee bags, like tea bags.... you just boil you some water and steep the little bag in it and whalla, fresh brewed coffee.  Now, I realize for some of you coffee afficionados out there that this may still be considered instant, but coming from someone who absolutely hates instant coffee, the Folgers Singles are the ticket!!!   8)

I like my Jetboil with the coffee press. A little messy to clean up but the coffee is good.

As for the wife thing she got out a while back. Right after her head spun around and all that ----.

Ok so I thought it over and decided that making fun of my ex is probably in poor taste. besides she has nothing to do with coffee. She hated the stuff. I guess thats why I like it so much now.

Just thought I'd mention that the infuser mug from REI looks pretty cool. I can't say that I've seen that before. I'm assuming it can double as the coffee mug and regular drinking mug too...right?

I may have to put that down on the Birthday Items List. Smiley

I think I may need more birthdays to accomodate my needs.

OK. So it was a cheap shot. Well not so cheap, but a shot. Mine didn't like coffee eather.  I've been drinking Higher Ground Bankers Blend lately. Good stuff.
