Is there a trail map somewhere online that I could look at for the trails surrounding Cheaha State Park? Or if not online, is there a map available at the park? I've read some books that show the different trails individually in sections, but haven't found anything that displays them on one big map showing how they all connect together. Anything out there?

I don't know of one. I checked all the usual suspects (Briartech, etc...) and came up with nothing. I'd suggest giving the park a call and seeing if they maybe sell or give away one.

I think that the store at the entrance to the State Park has some, It seems like I remember seeing some the last time that I was there

Jaybird...holy cow. That's great.

You have some great stuff there to share. Thank you so much for that work. Mind me asking which software and GPS you are using?

I've been using TOPO! from National Geographic but for some reason have been having issues. For my last trip I used Alabama Terrain Navigator and thought it was great!

Jaybird, your maps are great! Just what I was looking for. It's a shame I didn't have these before I headed out to Cheaha this past weekend. Whew, the wind was brutal on Sunday. I picked the wrong weekend I'll say that! Regarding the maps, all the maps at the park store leave a lot to be desired. The pinhoti map 4 which I had recommended to me is eh ... not that great to put it mildly. The main trails are marked ok, but the connector trails are just not specified very clearly at all. I had to put in some extra miles to make up for missed connectors. The area that's still pretty confusing to me is that green marked trail on your map... the "nubbin creek loop". It's not real clear on what parts of that trail are odom, pinhoti, or cave creek. On the pinhoti side, where the red meets the green, I'm not sure that it's clearly marked on the trail itself. I was heading down the pinhoti towards the Adam's Gap direction on Monday and I was looking for that connector to take me back to Nubbin Creek (so going down the yellow, then to green, then at the point where it looks like the red touches the green) I was looking to get back on the greeen to go to nubbin creek, and I just never saw it. I ended up walking all the way to Adam's Gap. Not sure how I missed it or if it's just not there or what. Pretty confusing.

Jaybird, I thought of something that would be very useful. This could take you a while but maybe over time as you re-hiked a lot of the trails you could do it, since it sounds like you spend a lot of time out there. It would be great if using your GPS you could mark the locations of all the established campsites you came across on your map. Since I was new to the Cheaha trails, not knowing what campsites were around the next bend was always a mystery to me. So that would be very useful info indeed!

Anyone seen any more controlled burns around Cheaha lately ?   Other than the one south of Adam's Gap they did in mid March ?
