I have a den full of 10 year-old boys that need to start getting good weekend backpacks for Boy Scouts.  Any suggestions?

If its the standard boy scout load: iron skillet, 6lb sleeping bag, axe, and tent. You probably can't go wrong w/ a Outdoor Products Dragonfly frame pack.

If one of them is too short for the 15" torso length, they could prob go for a Mountainsmith Youth Scout.

However today's conventional wisdom is that a child should never carry over 1/5th their body weight. (Man, we totally coddle them nowadays, don't we?) So for 12-20 lb load a heavy duty daypack works (ie one with a hipbelt).

Time to trade in that Coleman white gas stove for a pop-can alchohol stove and the iron dutch-oven for a Titanium cup and use freezerbag cooking.

I had the pleasure of sitting in on a new gear dimo at Mountian High Outfitters to night with the staff. They will be getting some new youth pack in very soon and you can rent one for $15. You can also apply the rental to the price of the pack as well as a scout discount.
