A month or so ago our local branch library was having a sell and I bought a stack of old Pinhoti, Taladega NF, Cherokee NF, Bankhead NF maps some from as early as '85. How old is a map before it is considered "out of date"? If you have an opinion on any of these single maps, I'd appreciate that too.

I think the current NFS map for Talladega is from the mid-90's, so not that out of date. My guess is that you'll find lots of minor border corrections, lots of trail additions, lots of old logging roads that are no longer drivable, and a few right-of-way changes on the depicted roads, otherwise they're probably close. But... They are out of date. Who made them?
How much were they?

If they are bad out of date you can do what I did with my old Bankhead Map. I took the old one matted and framed it hung it on the wall with a collection of my favorite photos surrounding it. I am also going to do this with my GSMNP map and last years photos from my wedding and honeymoon. This makes for a nice conversational piece when you have guests over.
