Nope.
Boots provide protection, traction, and stability in a durable package. Crocs and mocs don't. Sure they might be more comfy for a short dayhike, but in areas where your safety is dependent on the 3 criteria above, use a boot or at least a good trail shoe.

I met a Southbounder last fall on a section hike from Irwin to Hot Springs and he walked the Entire AT in a pair of Chaco's. He also wore Croc's whenever he wanted to give his feet a break. I read in his trail journal where one of the straps on his Chaco's blew out just past the Smokies and he walked to the NOC in his Croc's where he bought another pair of Chaco's. He also wore footies for his socks.
The Chaco's had a good Vibram sole on them and that his feet stayed cool in them with no blisters. The only downside to them according to him was that he would have to shake small rock's out sometimes. So I guess it can be done if you feel comfortable walking in them.

I have a pair of slip on mocs that have some neet rubber button tread on the bottoms. They are confortable for street and home wear but if I step on something sharp or a lone rock I feel it. That being the case I do not think I would hike in them but I am sure it can be done. The Native Americans did it for centuries. They did usually travel light though since they lived off the land so you may want to go ultralight or super-ultralight if you try it. I think with a low enough pack weight it is doable since the foot wear requirement depends largely on the load you are carrying.
