It isn't often that I hear about people getting lost enough in Bankhead to need rescuing, so I'll share this week-old article:
http://www.al.com/newsfla...amp;storylist=alabamanews
Article says only 5-10 people are reported lost in the forest each year. I'm guessing about 75% of them are hunters, because I've met a lot of directionally challenged hunters.

My bet is that just just simply got disoriented. Either they followed a dead game trail or just took an old trail. They were rescued with ease pretty early the next morning too.
Good to hear they were rescued without any hitches.

Probably went to the big tree late in the day and couldn't find their way back out. It is about the only place lots of people go that is pretty easy to get lost at, with the box canyons.

BearLeader67,
Do I have to tell my "how I got lost with a GPS" story one more time?

Here's to hoping I don't get lost in the bankhead while navigating w/ a GPS
Bear, have you found these three in bankhead: GC18FPY(ship rock & eye of the needle), GCTMG9(auburn falls), or GCT842(triple b in view of three)? Those are on my list for this weekend.
