I believe this is one of the waterfalls on Hemlock Creek. It is featured in Alabama's Canyons.

A lot of people have reported not finding this particular waterfall when hiking Hemlock Creek. My understanding is that it is difficult to access due to another waterfall up or downstream of it.

I have not visited this waterfall yet, but it is on my short list for my next trip to Sipsey. Your best bet would be to head out from the Eagle Creek "Parking Area" and head down the Hemlock Creek drainage.

Hemlock Canyon is located (crudely) at around:
http://maps.google.com/ma...0.037422&t=p&z=15

Based on the handful of people I've spoken with who've actually visted Hemlock Canyon, I think this falls must be visited heading downstream, because the other waterfall blocks upstream travel.

Cool!  Another excuse to go back to Eagle Creek.
MAN yet another waterfall I haven't been to yet. looks very interesting its a must find and shoot . I think we should get a group together and go waterfall hunting. when the weather is a bit it cooler and the water is flowing. Thanks for sharing Highlife

Cwhiker,

I wish I had decided to go for it the one day I was at Sipsey and looking for something to do. I ended up re-visiting Turkey Creek instead, and I regret it, because the weather was perfect for this falls. Based on the photos I've seen, my opinion is that the falls looks to be fairly high up in the drainage, and shouldn't require a full day's bushwhack to reach.

All I have been told is that its close to a nice campsite and people use the hole as a bathtub.
I guess during wet hot seasons. hence the word wet...I don't think those exist anymore except when its to cold to take a bath anyways.

Jaybird,

It is labelled in HIS book as being on Hemlock Creek, so it can't be a secret unless he lied or misprinted his book. I think you probably read too much into his reaction, he probably just didn't expect you to have read his book yet.

I went looking for this waterfall this weekend. Going upstream from little Ugly looked like a viable route on the map until I climbed up into the canyon and saw I was in a U shaped canyon confronted with what would be a good sized waterfall. I didn't see a safe way up and around. there were a couple of spots if you had rope and were skilled in rock climbing you could get up top.

Cwhiker,

My estimate is that the only way to see this waterfall is by heading down from the parking spot road stub for Eagle Creek, and head downstream on Hemlock.

Do you know if the "waterfall" that was blocking you was on Hemlock Creek, or was it maybe Fernglade? I guess what I'm asking is did you hit the large waterfall on Hemlock, the one Toph has a photo of, because if so, that would confirm that the falls needs to be hit from above, which may be something of a pain, because that area of the forest is REALLY easy to get lost in outside the canyons.

I confirmed with the GPS Track I was on Hemlock I took a photo from as high as you can get  its in my trail journal

Yup, that's the lower falls that I've seen pictures of, although it is somewhat dry. Wink

Guess that confirms the only approach is from above, but I guess if the lower falls is pretty dry, the upper falls is probably pretty dry as well.

SO MANY WATERFALLS, SO LITTLE TIME...

Man, I haven't found that one and could enjoy it pretty good if I found it! Smiley

Hopefully when I get back to AL, I'll have the opportunity to find what I'd like!

If you open the the book Alabama Canyons to "The Photographer's Comments by Charles Seifried"  page he is standing by a tree with lower white creek falls in the background. That is one mystery solved, next to solve the mystery picture at the head of these posts, Look no further than Upper White Creek Falls.

McDowra - Pretty sure that is a picture of Charles in front of the Big Tree in East Bee...?

That is definately the Big Tree, as Toph suggests.
