Took my 10' Pursuit Kayak to the Tallapoosa River near Ft. Toulouse today for a little exploration -- I call it River Hiking!  Played around in the Tallapoosa near the National Historic Site; the confluence with the Coosa; and explored some islands, backwaters, and sloughs.  I can really get close to wildlife and explore shallow water on my kayak and that's what I really enjoy about it.  Just have to keep your eyes open for power boats if you get into the main river.

Ran (or is that paddled) up on a jon boat with some young guys bow-fishing!  I've never tried it, but it did look fun (never mind that they didn't have any fish!).

Also followed a white tail doe as she swam from Ft. Toulouse to the other side of the Tallapoosa!

Feel free to check out my Blogpost of my River Hike with a couple of pics.

Wetumpka boy scout troop 13 canoes down the Tallapoosa every year from Tallassee to the toll bridge or down to hwy 231. This is a fun trip if you don't make a race out of it and enjoy it for two days or longer...
