make sure and browse the bargain racks of fabric in the craft section. I just scored 28 yards of 1.1oz ripstop and 1.1oz silnylon for a dollar a yard at the Birmingham 280 store. I cleaned them out so you might want to try another store.

Yeah, Don't expect them to know what you are talking about. Asking for help finding it won't do you any good. Just get to digging.

OK, here's a question from the clueless male. How do you tell if it's nylon or sil-nylon? IS it on the cardboard part of the fabric? Is it really safe to go into the fabric dept? It won't make me "sensitive" will it?  Wink

Regular ripstop you can breathe through. Silnylon you can not.

I will admit that I have frequented the crafts section a few times for fabric  :'( but I have found some good stuff. 1.1oz ripstop is pretty common, silnylon not so much, but I have found enough stuff to make two quilts and a poncho tarp. Wal-Mart is phasing out it's fabric department though so you better get it while you can.

I've tried for years to "catch" some silnylon at walmart and failed to date.  The clerks do not know about the material and the clearance/sale items do not give you specs.  Still, if you have handled silnylon then you'll recognize it when you touch it.   I'll keep looking just because I'd like to get a good buy.  If you are in need then google material and check some hiking sites where homemade gear is discussed.  You can buy reminants and seconds for about 50% of the normal cost.
