Doesn't shock me at all.

Bankhead has a long history moonshining, and no doubt pot-growing and meth-making as well. I'm just shocked more hikers haven't run into angry criminals whose secret they've stumbled on.

I wonder if this was the cluster of trailers on the left side of Rt-33 (heading towards Moulton) at the large logging clearing just up the road from the Sipsey bridge. I always thought it looked a little suspicious, and what's worse if that WAS it, it was right down the road from the ranger station.

In Kentucky and WV, where the problem has been really bad, Forest Rangers tell stories about fishing-line at eye level, bear traps, and even Punji sticks set up to defend pot fields and other criminal activities.

When I made the last trip there w/ the scout troop, some of them made the comment that those trailers looked "sketchy" too.

It really has surprised me that we, as backpackers, haven't found more out there. Especially with the seclusion and difficulty to get in there for others.
