Does anyone know of a good place to camp around the Destin area? It does not have to be on the beach but something close by would be nice.
I am going diving and thought I would try my luck camping if its not to hot.

Grayton Beach just can't be beat. Great Beach, Great Camping. I am rather partial though. I got married there.

I made a list last year when we were thinking of a late summer beach camping trip (notes about availability were for last year so nevermind those):
Grayton Beach SP
•   East of Destin
•   Available camping Sept 7-11  ($19)
•   ¾ mile walk to beach

Henderson Beach SP
•   Practically in Destin (just east)
•   Camping available during week only ($21)
•   ¼ mile walk to beach

Topsail Hill SP
•   $38 /night but none are available anyway
•   1 mile walk to beach.

Deer Lake SP
•   No camping

Camp Helen SP
•   No camping

St. Andrews SP
•   $24 per night camping (spaces available)
•   Beach <1/2 mile away.
•   In Panama City

St. Joseph Peninsula SP
•   $20/night available spots
•   500 ft to beach
•   ~ 40 miles from Panama City (423 miles from H’ville)

Gulf SP, AL
•   $19.55/nt 1st come/serve
•   Beaches 1.5 miles across Hiway.

Thanks Flem, all of these help alot. I should be able to find something that works for me. You think any of the State Parks would allow hammock camping?Think I will carry the tent just in case I can't hang.

I've never stayed at a Florida State Park that I wouldn't go back too, though, I haven't stayed at them all.  They all seem very well kept, clean, and family friendly, which is what I like.

St Andrews has great camping!  I would love to go back there one day when it's not spring break. The site I had was bayfront and the view of the stars over the dim glow of lights on the bay was breathtaking.

If you don't mind a 3 mile backpack/hike in, Fort Pickens Campground is open.

There's also primitive camping available on Perido Key.

Henderson is closer to town the Henderson has washers and a playground .
Greyton doesn't
Greyton is quiet tho not so many locals and sea turtle walks sometimes as well as crab walks at night heehee
We are going to St Andrew so we can go to Shell Island ,there is suppose to be the largest dlophin population there. They also have Primitive camping within site of the beach and ocean!
Also check the love bug season or you'll be swarmed annnd the Gulfarium has online discounts and fun stuff for the kids! I think we all loved the SeaLion show!
